I suddenly got the idea that a haphazard pile of old sheet music would make a great cover for my book. I found pictures of the sheet music and downloaded about 20 sheets, which are now neatly printed and laying in a pile! Every sheet but one or two has to be trimmed, and Hubby gets stuck with that chore because I have a tremor in both my hands now. (It used to be just the left.) Then we'll arrange the sheets artfully, probably on top of one of our wash stands - we have three antique ones - with maybe a candle sitting next to the pile. The picture would be taken from above. I think it could turn out to be quite beautiful. We'll see what Hubby thinks. He actually has a better eye for art than I do.
Some of the old music is really pretty. There's one sheet with pictures of birds superimposed over the notes. There's also a playbill from a concert that has a pretty design around the edges. A lot of the sheets are stained or just gone brown with age. Those will look good. There are even some individual sheets of music that have designs around the outside edge of the sheet. I found a couple that have only German printing on them. I had to be careful not to pick anything that was too late. I think I probably do have some, but since there's no date on them, there's no way to be sure.
If we can finish the cover in a timely manner (within the next month or so), we can buy copies of this one to add to what we'll be taking to the Artist and Author Fair. That would make number eleven, though, and negate all the papers we've so carefully copied with just ten books on them! Yup, this one is number eleven, and I've actually completed number twelve, but we haven't started proofing it yet.
Okay, enough about my hobby! Hubby goes to the optometrist tomorrow. ("Obstetrician" leaped into my head first, but then I thought Hubby probably wouldn't get much good out of seeing an obstetrician.)
