CLASS REUNION

My 55th high school class reunion starts at 3PM today and runs until we get bored.  We're all bringing desserts and the class fund is paying for everything else.  We always have it at a private pavilian that one of the guys built.  He has a very successful excavating business and owns lots of land around the business.  He put in a pond and built the pavilian with a big wood-burning grill at one end and lots of picnic tables.  There's even a one-hole out-house.  How can we go wrong?  Hubby and I baked cookies, but we cheated.  We bought the dough ready-made and baked it.  They came out nice, though.  I don't think anyone will mind even if they notice the difference.

I don't think that anyone is coming from far away.  Lots of the class members who live right around here don't even come!  I think that's rude.  We used to make the trip up from Texas whenever we could manage.  Hubby's reunion is one year ahead of mine - he graduated in '61 and I graduated in '62.  We were both valedictorians of our classes, Hubby because he worked really hard and studied all the time and me because school was really easy for me.  I read the material the night before each test and promptly forgot all of it as soon as the test was over!  I had a 96% average for four years - not too shabby.  The girl who placed 2nd had a 92% average.  If I've never told you about my adventures shortly before graduation, tell me and I'll post it.

Time for some early lunch, then I'm off to the shower.

You sound like me. School was a breeze. Straight A’s all the way. I did not make valedictorian though because there were 3 kids in my class of over 300 who beat me out. But I WAS valedictorian in grade school.

LOL! A tiny class. Hell, in grade school that was one grade.

Yes, in grade school that was one grade – exactly all the same people as when we all started to high school together!

In high school we came from grade schools all over the place. We had a class of 300+.

We had just a very few from country schools around us – maybe 5 or 6 kids. By the time we got to graduation, we were back to 62 due to drop-outs and those who moved away.

It was the biggest class ever up to that point. They weren’t prepared when we all showed up for first grade, and had to get another teacher and another classroom and divide us in half! We were divided for first, second, third and fourth grades. In fifth grade, the main classroom was taught by a man and he said he could handle all of us at once, but there weren’t enough desks. Thirteen of us were sent back to our fourth grade teacher and she stuck us in a corner and taught us and the fourth grade class as well. She chose the students she wanted and we were all in the band (and all the best students). One boy cried because she took all his friends and left him behind, so she took him, too, then a new girl started a couple of weeks later and we got her as well. The sixth grade teacher (also a man) took all of us. He was a legend, who had already taught my dad and all his brothers and sisters.

I did awesome in school until President Kennedy was assassinated. It was all down hill after that.

Oh, indeed! I saw a guy I recognized immediately, caught his eye and smiled and he said he’d be over to talk to me in a minute. He sat down next to me and asked, “What’s your name?” I laughed and told him, then we talked about all the fun we had in our high school geometry class. Later I found out he has dementia and it’s getting worse lately. I don’t suppose he’ll remember me any more if we both make it to the next reunion. That’s why it’s so important to go. As I’ve said, we had 62 graduates and 21 have died already.
